About Me

Name: Matthew Meadows

About: A thirty-something ‘environmental professional’ hewn from the ancient sedimentary and exposed Precambrian igneous rocks of Southern Ontario.

My love of the natural world began as a child playing on the muddy banks of the Holland River; hiking within the sugar maple stands of Ontario; and sailing across the wind swept lakes of Ontario, Canada.

Gradually, the halls of knowledge called me eastward, where I studied and completed some original research; by dint I graduated with two parchments, some knowledge, and more unanswered questions.

With cap in hand, I packed my suitcases and headed towards the Taiga, Rocky Mountains, Prairies, and Wetlands of Alberta, British Columbia, and Northwest Territories.

After years of paying off debt and playing outside, my dream of a walking odyssey is now able to be realized.  No more dreaming. No more excuses.

  1. Thanks for the comment. My gear list is at https://mywalk.blog/2017/02/15/the-gear/. This most definitely can be classified as a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal). My total weight (gear and food) is about 30 lbs, with a pound or so lighter after each day — consumption of food. You know what they say, if you aren’t over your head, you’re not deep enough. In the first week I reduced my pack weight by a pound or so.

My love for this project continues to grow, and I feel this change has created a better version of myself.
